Welcome!

Mosaic at the 2015 Israel Day Parade

Mosaic of Westchester is spearheading a county-wide collaboration focused on integrating Westchester’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Jews into the fabric of Jewish life, thus enriching the entire Westchester Jewish community. Our vision is for LGBTQ Jews of all ages to become actively engaged, fully integrated members of Westchester’s Jewish community. Acting as a catalyst, resource, and facilitator, Mosaic is demonstrating that LGBTQ inclusion strengthens the Jewish community by making it more knowledgeable, diverse and more connected.

What do we do?

Learn about the many ways we help create an inclusive Jewish community in Westchester:

For LGBTQ Jews

Group Gathering

Mosaic’s first gathering for LGBTQ Jews who live in Westchester took place on February 23rd at Congregation Emanu-el of Westchester.

For LGBTQ Jews—singles, couples, families, seniors—we can help you find a way to become more connected to the Jewish community…a way that works for you, whether it’s through religious affiliation, community service, social/cultural/recreational activities, and/or study.

We currently co-sponsor a variety of social, cultural, and educational activities to help LGBTQ Jews get to know one another.

We strive to work collaboratively with lay leaders, LGBTQ community members, professionals and Jewish institutions to help create opportunities for celebration, learning, leadership, and engagement in Westchester Jewish life.

Our activities include: Shabbat dinners; informal gatherings for family members of LGBTQ Jews, and gatherings of LGBTQ individuals and couples; speakers on relevant topics; LGBTQ themed movies, and book suggestions for reading clubs.

We are committed to promoting leadership opportunities in the community.

For Jewish institutions, clergy, and educators

For Jewish institutions, clergy, and educators—we can help you navigate the process of LGBTQ inclusion in the way that is most comfortable for your particular synagogue, school or organization.

We provide leaders and staff with knowledge, skills, tools, and resources to help them become more LGBTQ inclusive. This includes:

  • Coordinating and arranging workshops and professional development training for faculty and staff tailored to meet the specific needs of their community
  • Providing Jewish institutions with sample membership forms to reflect more inclusive language
  • Offering guidance and suggestions for making websites and communities more welcoming
  • Distributing additional resources to help promote LGBTQ inclusion. For example, we offer Jewish educators a free copy of The Purim Superhero, a children’s story of a boy with two dads. We will include a suggested curriculum that accompanies the story
  • Providing LGBTQ support stickers to Jewish organizations to help them demonstrate that they are an open, safe, and welcoming community

We are also in the process of creating the first online guide to LGBTQ Inclusive Westchester!

For friends and allies

For friends and allies—we can help you connect with one another and work with you in our shared goal of enriching our Westchester Jewish community through LGBTQ inclusion.
